Guide Home Back to Dr. Olivia

October 30, 2026

Students can now practise a clinical interview with Dr. Olivia as the patient, and administrators can see at a glance whether a session was in Faculty, Student or Consumer mode.

New features

  • Practise a patient interview with Dr. Olivia. Ask her to be your standardized patient and she becomes the patient while you interview her as the doctor. She tells you who is waiting behind the door, answers only what you ask the way a real patient would, and stays in character until you are done. Stuck? Say "time out" or ask what to try next, and she steps out for a quick hint, then goes straight back to being your patient. Say "end the role-play", ask how you did, or close the visit as you would with a real patient, and she steps back out to go over it with you: your diagnosis, what you drew out well, and what you missed. You can name the kind of patient you want, or let her choose one that fits what you have been studying. It works in the text chat and with the avatar, and a Role-play badge stays on screen the whole time; point at it for a reminder of how to stop. If your browser closes in the middle, she welcomes you back to the same patient. Clicking End Session ends the interview. Your session summary records that you practised an interview, without mistaking the patient's made-up symptoms for what you studied.
  • Look back at your patient interviews. Your home page now counts your patient interviews and lists the recent ones. Review shows the whole interview again, then the diagnosis and what a thorough history would have drawn out, so you can compare it with the questions you asked.

Enhanced features

  • Go over your quiz with Dr. Olivia. After a practice quiz, just ask her to go over what you got wrong. She can see every question, the answer you picked and the right answer, so you no longer need to paste questions back to her. This works for every quiz you have taken in the session, whether or not you used the Ask Dr. Olivia button. If you ask about a question you have not answered yet, she helps you think it through without giving away the answer.

  • Dr. Olivia explains Faculty Mode (faculty). Ask her what she is for, or how Faculty Mode differs from what your students get, and she gives you the specific differences: how she works with you, how practice questions and answer keys are handled, and which features are for students only. Asked whether other faculty use her to write questions, she now says that question writing is the most common faculty request, and that your program administrators can tell you how the program is using her. The new Faculty Mode guide page has the same comparison.

  • Patient interviews in the session view (administrators). Sessions with a patient interview show an RP pill, and the conversation marks where each interview started, where the student came back to it, and where it ended.

  • Session mode on the Sessions page (administrators). Every session in the list, and the header of the session you open, now shows a Faculty, Student or Consumer pill. You no longer need to look the user up on the Users page to tell which experience they had.

Things to know

Sessions from before May 1, 2026 show Unknown, because the mode was not recorded then.
